I Didn't Plan for This

When our kids were little, we prayed for them to grow up and be successful, to make a difference in this world.  But I had no idea then, that although our prayers have been answered, that it would mean our son, wife, and almost 3-year old granddaughter, Winslow Grace, would live 20 hours away!

As someone still fairly new to this NeeNee role (my grandma name), I find myself doing a lot of praying about how to support, connect with, and love on, my family so far away.  And it seems like the Lord has started bringing other grandmas my way who are in the same situation.

So I've felt a leading to start this blog.  A place for us to connect, to support one another, to pray for one another and our families, and hopefully share ideas on how to best "Grandlove Across the Miles."

This is a faith-based blog, so God and prayers will be a heavy focus.  If you want to join us, I only ask that we agree to keep in confidence anything shared as far as prayer requests/needs, etc, unless someone specifically asks us to share with others.  And that we are committed to praying for one another, and helping remind one another that even though God has given us these precious kids and grandkids here on earth, they really are His before ours, and will be His long after we are gone.

God Bless, and welcome to Grandloving--Across the Miles!

    1. "I didn't plan for this." Me either NeeNee!!! I've been on this journey for 12 years and though I am getting better at it, I have battled lots of emotions along the way. Rather than focus on the grief, God has helped renew my mind by showing me how to focus on the gift of encouragement. I'm learning how to encourage and bless my children and grandchildren. as a result of God growing my own courage, joy and trust. I'll likely post more mistakes than victories, but I am very excited to share this journey with other grandparents across the miles.

      Romans 12:2 (Message translation)
"So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you."

  4. I am beyond excited about having communication with women who are in the same situation as I find myself in, having children and grandchildren who live far away from us. I am always concerned with questions such as, how will my grandchildren feel how loved and cherished they are, or how will I impart my love for Christ with them as my grandmothers did to me. In sharing with all of you and listening to your stories as well, I pray that God will open up avenues for me to serve and worship him as well as Avenue to do the same for my grandchildren from afar!

  6. I, too, have grandchildren living several hundred miles from me! Sometimes my heart yearns to see them face to face! I am excited to have this forum to share with other Christian grandmothers!
I seem to be very challenged by the technology, but hopefully I will master soon!
I do have a BIG prayer request! My daughter, son-in-law, and two granddaughters live in Minneapolis. They are expecting extremely cold weather there this week. The temperature on Wednesday is expected to be -25 with a wind chill of-55! Please pray for protection and safety for my family as well as all living in this area!
